Human and Social Development
Our students will study personal and human social skills and as they relate to students' identity in the world - both as individuals and as members of their community. We are learning that personal and human social skills encompass the abilities students needs to thrive as individuals, to understand and care about themselves and others, and to find and achieve their purposes in the world.
Goals
- Improve student sense of well-being.
Students are using the Zones of Regulation program in the classroom to learn ways to identify how they are feeling and possible ways to make themselves feel better when they are unhappy. They are learning about how their actions affect those around them.
Students are using regular class meetings as a way to discuss problems they are having in the classroom and/ or the playground. During these meetings, the students are learning to communicate their needs and figure out ways to meet them.
Our Gr. 5 indigenous students came together with other students across the district and had dedicated time to learn about Indigenous Teachings at the Voice of the Drum workshop.
Students are sharing what they are grateful for in their life. They chose special possessions from home, such as pictures or an object that is a symbol of what they value in their life (i.e., family, culture, sports, achievements, etc.).
