Indigenous Education

At Aberdeen Elementary, we focus on indigenizing the curriculum in various ways. As you enter our building, you will notice indigenous artwork symbolizing the sun, the moon, and the bumblebee. We also have a plaque that shows that we are located on the lands of the Sto:lo people. The Sto:lo people are made of the Matsqui First Nation and the Sumas First Nation People and they have been on these lands for over 10,000 years. We thank them for being able to use their land daily.

Our classroom teachers do a great job at integrating indigenous content into the curriculum as much as possible. We also have an Indigenous Support Worker (ISW) at the school to support our indigenous students. Our ISW focuses on academic support and creating cultural awareness and pride.
