Belonging at Aberdeen: Where Every Student Matters in Our Thriving Community!
Located in the countryside, Aberdeen Elementary School is more than just a place of learning—it's a thriving, supportive community where everyone plays a role in fostering our school motto of "You Matter, You Belong". From the moment students step onto school grounds to the time they leave at the end of the day, the sense of belonging is evident in every interaction.
Aberdeen's emphasis on community isn't just about friendly interactions—it's about creating an environment where students, staff, and families feel supported and encouraged. It's a place where collaboration is key, where staff lift each other up, and where parents/guardians are active partners in education. The school fosters a culture where everyone—whether a student, teacher, EA, administrator, or parent—has an important role in making Aberdeen a special place.
Parents/Guardians play an equally vital role in shaping Aberdeen's nurturing atmosphere. The Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) is deeply involved in school activities, working tirelessly to enhance the student experience. PAC members take on any opportunity to be a part of the school, even the lunch-hour supervisor positions that the District offers. They also organize fun and engaging events such as PAC Movie Nights, where families gather to watch films, strengthening bonds beyond the classroom. Hot lunch programs, treat days, and special events like the Christmas Market are all PAC-driven initiatives that bring joy and excitement to the school community.
The commitment to connection extends to the student's sense of well-being as outlined in the District strategic plan. Teachers and staff line up at the doors, greeting students with smiles and cheerful hellos in the morning and sending them off with warm goodbyes in the afternoon. This simple yet meaningful practice reinforces a sense of security and familiarity for students. One particularly cherished tradition is Mrs. Schuster's morning greetings—without fail, she waves and personally acknowledges each student by name as they arrive. Ms. Rebecca, the school administrative assistant, also warmly greets students in the office who arrive late or leave early, adding another layer of connection and care to the school environment. This small act of kindness makes a significant impact, reminding students that they are valued and seen.
At a time when school communities can sometimes feel disconnected, Aberdeen Elementary shines as a model of unity and shared purpose. The school thrives on the contributions of every individual, from Ms. Holly's (EA) uplifting words echoing down the hall to the warm smile of our Youth Care Worker, Ms. Baker, as she actively checks in on the students. Whether through PAC-organized events that bring families together or daily interactions that create a sense of connection, Aberdeen fosters an environment that embodies the school motto, "You Matter, You Belong". This deep sense of belonging is what makes the school truly exceptional.
